Andy Park

Visual Development Artist/Illustrator

For more than a decade, Andy Park has been an artistic force in the entertainment industry. Early in his career, he made a name for himself as the main illustrator for award-winning, top-selling comic book titles like Tomb Raider and Uncanny X-Men. Andy was also a highly sought-after editorial illustration contributor for popular magazines such as Maxim, FHM, and Muscle & Fitness. Most recently, Andy has expanded his artistic repertoire as a concept artist/visual development artist on the critically acclaimed video game God of War II, the sequel to the award-winning Sony Playstation video game God of War.

Bio

It was during Andy’s sophomore year as an undergrad at UCLA that he was offered a position as a comic book artist at Extreme Studios, a branch of Image Comics which publishes such top-selling comic book titles as Spawn and WildC.A.T.S. For the next two years, Andy was the main artist on various comic book titles, as well as a regular cover artist on a multitude of different titles.

Despite his early success in the field, Andy’s desire to grow as an artist and as a person led him to leave the comic book industry for a while in order to attend the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif. He studied Illustration, but as fate would have it, the comic book industry could not do without Andy’s talent for long and would come calling again.

This time, he was to be the main illustrator of a new comic book title, one based on the hit video game phenomenon Tomb Raider. The highly anticipated first issue hit the shelves in the winter of 1999 and instantly become the top-selling comic book of the entire year. Andy continued to have a successful run on Tomb Raider from issue #1 all the way to issue #20.

After Tomb Raider, Andy continued to illustrate a variety of other popular comic book titles including Uncanny X-Men and Alias: Agent Bristow, a comic book based on the hit television series Alias. He was also the regular cover artist on titles like Excalibur, Weapon X, and Mutopia X.

Besides comic book work, Andy was a regular illustration contributor to popular magazines such as Maxim, FHM, Flex, and Muscle & Fitness.

In more recent years, Andy has added a new artistic title to his resume – that of concept artist and visual development artist. In that capacity, Andy helped create the artistic vision, look and feel on a variety of film and game projects, including the characters, creatures, and vehicles/props for the real-time strategy PC game Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard in 2003. Then in 2005 he joined the team at Sony Computer Entertainment America in Santa Monica, Calif., to help create the visual world of God of War II, the highly anticipated sequel to the award-winning Playstation video game God of War.

Today, Andy continues to work at Sony Santa Monica Studios and is currently working on creating the world of a next-generation Playstation 3 video game.
